Food and other photos by MJ Klein
It’s been awhile since we featured some food photos for our foodie readers, so I think it’s time for a few articles about food. We hope that everyone has enjoyed the holidays and didn’t eat too much!

Hui-chen’s sister came over for a few days, and we took them to a place in Hukou that I like to call “the noisy restaurant” because typically people there are very loud. It was almost empty this evening though. Here we see Hui-chen on the left checking out the menu and ordering dishes with the boss lady taking the order.

We’re taking a few days off here, what with the holidays around the world and all. We know that you’re probably too busy eating and drinking (too much, I’m sure!) to be reading our blog. But there are a couple of things that I do want to share with you.
I purchased the new Garmin Colorado GPS. It’s quite a piece of work and is a GPS receiver that we could only have dreamed about a few years ago. I want to do a full review of it later, but for now I’m very impressed with it, even though it does leave out a few of what I consider to be critical features. Still it does everything I need it to do, plus a whole lot more. I’ll have more info for you in a review later on.
In the meantime, enjoy your time off with your family!

Photos, including FOOD PHOTOS, by MJ Klein & Hui-chen
A few weeks ago we went to visit the family down in Kaohsiung. Of course we had a great time because we love Kaohsiung and our family knows how to enjoy themselves.

We went to this cool restaurant and covered the table with food, basically.

Last night, Hui-chen and I visited our good friends Michael Turton and family. On the way to his home I had to stop to photograph the setting sun.

Yes, that’s a jet at the top edge of the photo.

It’s been awhile since we’ve had one of our articles on local parks. My Nikon D80 is back in the shop for the recurring MENU button problem (the shop broke it last time), and today I decided to use my Sony-Ericsson C702 mobile phone with GPS to take the park photos.
Also, I’ve put all the previous “mini park” series articles into a series called simply “Taiwan Parks” which doesn’t limit the topics to mini parks only. So I can add any kind of a park to this series, city, county, national, or whatever.

If I said that I loved Taiwan’s scenic beauty, it would be a classic understatement. So when we had the opportunity to drive Highway 20 and cross from West to East, I couldn’t have been happier.

We set out from Kaohsiung and drove up towards Tainan, cutting east and then onto Highway 20 just outside of Tainan. The weather was absolutely perfect! See those mountains in the distance? We got a lot closer to them!
Please note that I’ve geotagged this article at the point where we picked up Highway 20 outside of Tainan.

The next place that we went on our trip to East Taiwan was the Sansiantai or the “three faries” as they are called in Chinese. The most striking feature is the beautiful 8-arch bridge and of course, the natural beauty surrounding it.

Hui-chen and I took our good friend David on a whirlwind trip to the east side of Taiwan. I thought I would share some photos of that trip. East Taiwan is completely different than the west side of the island and there are many interesting things to see there.
In 2002, I visited an attraction called “Water Running Uphill.” This is what it looks like:

It certainly looks as if water in this trough it running uphill, doesn’t it?
SPOILER: If you don’t want to know if the water really does run uphill or not, I suggest that you not continue reading this article because I will provide scientific proof one way or another!

This is the last article in our 2008 US Trip series. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this series as much as we’ve enjoying sharing it with you.
In Part Two we showed you the famous Kansai airport in Osaka Japan. Now, on the return flight we’re going to show you a little of what Detroit’s airport is like.

This is of course, my lovely wife Hui-chen standing on one of the moving walkways. Detroit is a large airport and it’s a good thing they have these moving walkways, otherwise we would have been completely wiped out getting from one terminal to the other to catch our connecting flight! We took the same exact route back as we did getting to North Carolina from Taiwan, just in reverse order of course.
