Geotagged photos by MJ Klein
I can’t believe I’m so far behind in my blogging! I’m going to try to catch up over the next few weeks.
In early fall, we went to the beach with our longtime blog reader/commentator Stefan, and his family.
At Stefan’s suggestion, we went to Baishawan Beach, which is Pinyin for “white sand beach” in the Guanyin Mountain Scenic Area of Taiwan’s North Coast. You can click on the photo and go to the Flickr page and view a larger size if you want to read the map. Also, the photos are geotagged so you can see where they were taken. This article is also geotagged so you can view the location on our Geotagged Articles Map.
This is the first view of the ocean from the parking lot. I love the beautiful color of the water.
With her little red purse, Phoenix was ready for the beach!
Stefan and his family stop to check out the beach toys.
This is the entrance to the beach.
Down the boardwalk….
I turned around and took this shot of where we just came from. The parking lot is visible through the gap.
The boardwalk goes right down to the sand.
And this is the view of the beach from the stairs on the boardwalk.
A close of up some radomes in the distance.
Usually, people rent one of these windbreak/sunshades for NT$300, which we did.
Phoenix brought some beach toys from home and got right down to work.
Lighthouse in the distance.
The day was perfect! Not a rain cloud in sight!
Hui-chen took Phoenix down to the water for her first experience with the ocean.
She wasn’t afraid of the water at all. She told us she liked the water. It was a nice warm temperature.
This is Iris, Stephan’s daughter, enjoying the surf in the toy she got earlier.
Phoenix and Mommy head back to the shade.
The beach sand is very clean and fun for children and adults too, I might add.
There was plenty of wind for surfing.
And several kite surfers showed up.
It was nice being out with 2 Taiwanese women who weren’t so concerned with having sickly white skin.
A kite surfer getting his gear ready for action.
Here he is on the water.
The speeds at which the wind was taking him along were impressive.
Another kite surfer getting ready.
I don’t know which was more fun, wind surfing, or kite surfing – they both looked like a blast!
Stefan very kindly played with Phoenix while I took photos.
Phoenix’s pants got so wet from playing that we just took them off and let her run around in her diaper.
Phoenix loved playing in the wet sand, and Iris did too.
No worries!
Yet another kite surfer getting ready. I think there were 5 all together that day.
We can highly recommend Baishawan Beach for an excellent day of family fun!
Thanks for reading. We’d love to hear from you so be sure and leave a comment!
Hey, I know these people! 🙂
Next time we need to find a restaurant a bit closer to the beach. Apparently the thing to do is to head south along the coast to Qianshuiwan.
hi Stefan. yes, that would be nice. i know there must be something nearer than where we ended up, but i admit that my knowledge of that area is very limited. i’ll mention this to HC and see if she can come up with something. thanks!
Phoenix is precious. The beach is very pretty. Loved seeing the pictures.
thanks Carolyn. hope you can see it yourself sometime. take care.
