Recently Hui-chen and I took a trip to the hot-springs town of Dongpu.  I posted all the photos on flickr, but I haven’t had time to blog on the trip yet.  We had a great time, driving through mountains shrouded in mist.  It was a nice relaxing weekend for us.  We began our trek in Nantou….

Olympic Village opened this week in Beijing. I’ve noticed a distinct correlation between that event and the number of visitors to this blog from China.

We’ve narrowed the problem with our blog down to a plug-in.  We’re not sure exactly which plug-in is causing the problem yet.  Thanks for bearing with us during our time of trouble.  We appreciate our loyal readership.  Over the next several days we’ll be trying to figure out which plug-in is giving us the headache.  In the meantime, we are riding out the current typhoon.

Please bear with us while we are still trying to get our blog back to normal. My Nikon D80 has been in the shop for parts of 3 weeks to fix a simple CCD bad pixel re-mapping, which is taking forever! Without my Nikon, I feel little compulsion for blogging, you understand.

Unless you’ve been under a rock you know that there is another typhoon bearing down on Taiwan. This thing is a full day away, and yet is dumping a fair amount of rain on us already. Last night about 01:00 (AM) the drain in the first floor kitchen started to backflow, dumping water up into the kitchen. As you recall, the last time that happened our living room was under a few centimeters of water. This time however, I was ready, for I had purchased a submersible pump the previous week while shopping at B&Q.

Widespread flooding has been reported due to heavy rainfall from typhoon Kalmaegi (Helen).  Clip shows a daring rescue from a television report.

Our house flooded on the first floor. I made a siphon from some hose and that drained most of the water out. The problem is that the water is coming up from the drainage system.
