Our New Car

Photos by MJ Klein

I thought it was time to show our readers the new car.  But, the weather has been awful (hard to take photos in the rain) and our entire family has been sick with the flu for almost 2 weeks.  So I’ve decided to do a short series on the new car to give me time to do more photography.

The new car is a Volkswagen Caddy Maxi.  I’ve heard that this model is not available in the USA.  I’m hoping our readers will let us know.  The models are a bit confusing, but ours is a 7 seat 1.6 liter turbo diesel, with a 7 speed automatic transmission.  For now I’m going to show you what it looks like in this installment, and later I’ll get into the technical details.

Our New Car

Like most cars in Taiwan, we have dark windows.

Our New Car

It looks like a van with a car front-end on it.

The front kinda looks like a Golf.

Our New Car

Daytime running lights.  The light control has an automatic setting.  I leave it on Auto and the lights come on automatically when needed.

Our New Car

Normal headlights + front fog lights.  The fog lights also act as cornering lights at slower speeds.  This feature is very convenient, especially when parking.

We have the model with a tailgate, as opposed to the two doors.  Later on I will show you the cargo space details.

The salesman told us that no one wanted this car because the wives disliked the color.  Personally I love the color, and the paint is a rich metalflake finish.  The 1.6 liter turbo diesel has more than enough power.  The smaller engine uses less fuel and we’re experiencing very good fuel economy.

I need to recover from this illness and have a nice day to take more photos for subsequent installments.  Thanks for reading.  Please leave us your questions and comments!

  1. I like your new van. Like the color too. It is a little too long for me to drive. Terrific family van. Have not seen that model in past.
We are enjoying Michael’s and Peichi’s visit.
Hope you all get well soon.
My husband and I have been under the weather too, so company is staying at a motel.

    1. hi Carolyn. sorry to hear you and your husband are ill. i didn’t know that Michael and Peichi were there visiting. that’s very nice! we are doing better now, thanks. Phoenix has a mild cough but it’s manageable. thanks and take care.

      1. We hope that Phoenix continues to get over her cough. That is what is so rough on us – the hacking cough. Michael and Peichi left yesterday on the next step of their travels. Their time with us was too short, but us being sick did that. We hope to meet up with them again at some point in Seattle or Portland, within the next month or two. You all take care too.

        1. thanks Carolyn. she sounds horrible, but she is her usual smiling self and not bothered by it. it’s not like what you describe – i hate those! hope you and your husband get over them soon. take care.

  2. Good to hear you are better. I think this car will come in handy for transporting recumbent bikes, BBQ equipment or to go on tour with a band. (Oh yes, family car, too.)
