Wow, we’ve had a lot of great meals in 2006! It’s our pleasure to bring you part #5 of the 2006 series. This is a meal we had in Laohukou with our good friend Saumen.
Pan fried togun or dried tofu.
Cold Chicken with dipping sauce.
This was the best dish on the table – Pan Fried Shark.
Duck Intestine with Garlic Greens. A great version of this dish!
A Taiwanese standard: Pan Fried Cabbage with Chili.
We had an enjoyable time with some green tea and Taiwan beer. Wish you could have joined us!

MJ, another good one and tonite, I really am glad that we had already had dinner , this post really made my juices flow, well, all except the duck guts , just can’t bring myself to try them , maybe it’s from when my folks made me eat chittlens one time , oh yuck., I can still taste them and the smell forever lingers in my brain. great post all in all and when you are over here and if you get to come for a visit to our little village Whang Pho, we have a few favorite places to take you for a enjoyable meal, and who knows I may just cook one up myself Malcolm

hi Malcolm, thanks for dropping by. i know what you mean about the guts, but when we have them they are very well cleaned and you can’t smell anything of what used to go through them, so to speak. i’ve smelled Southern chitlins and they leave something to be desired, certainly. hopefully one of these days we’ll be over to Whang Pho and get a chance to do some cooking and eating together. maybe join the elephants down at the river for their nightly bath too. take care Malcolm, and thanks for your comments.

MJ, I am a big fan of shark. Back home in Australia many people don’t know they eat shark a lot more than they think. Most shops that stock ‘flake’ is shark and one of my favourite eating fish. When ever we caught a small shark usually a Port Jackson we would bleed it straight away, very important and it was just so delicious. Many times people who had some of my famous ‘beer batter’ flake couldn’t or wouldn’t believe they were eating plain old shark. Another dish I used to make was prawn in tempura batter with desicrated coconut. I have to do some cooking 🙂 Thanks for sharing again mate.
