Miaoli Strawberry Festival

Taiwan Strawberry Festival

The family and I went down to Miaoli at the start of the Strawberry Festival.  We found that most of the strawberry picking places weren’t really ready for customers, so after driving around and not finding one, we went to the cultural center where strawberry products were on sale.

This photo was taken in December, and already Phoenix is considerably taller.  At this writing she’s a few days from being 2 years and 5 months, and she is over 96cm tall.  She’s holding her rabbit she got in Neiwan recently.

Even though it was December, the misters were turned on.  Don’t know why….

Taiwan Strawberry Festival

This is a game where you hit the frogs as they stick their heads out of the holes.  Phoenix really likes this game.

We went over to the area where the strawberry goods were sold.  We found some interesting products but they all had too much sugar for our liking, so we didn’t buy anything.

Phoenix liked the giant fruits that were on the premises.  This is a starfruit.

Sorry there isn’t much to show of the Strawberry Festival, but sometimes it’s like that in Taiwan.

Let me talk about another subject for a moment, if I may.  Our Sigma lens has been acting up lately.  But it is 8 years old after all.  We had the focus motor replaced, but since then it’s still not right.  The focus lock is on about 60% of the time, and the lens frequently causes exposure problems (noticeable in some of the above photos).  We’ve sent the lens to the Taiwan Sigma repair facility and we should have it back in about 2 weeks.  The Sigma lens has been more than excellent and I appreciate the quality of Sigma lenses overall, so we’re looking forward to getting it back soon and getting the expected excellent results we’ve come to expect from it.

  1. I love Taiwanese dried strawberries. The fresh stuff I actually prefer in Germany (though we are a long time away from getting any of them) but the dried ones are just fantastic in Taiwan.

I’m not sure whether they really needed to make a giant fake melon – the Taiwanese real ones are already damn huge! 🙂

    1. hi Stefan. German fresh strawberries must be off the scale, good! i’ve never had them but the Taiwanese ones are incredible, i think. i hear you on the giant melon! take care and thanks.

  3. Where could I buy Taiwanese dried strawberries in U.S.?
Looks like it was a fun place for Phoenix.

    1. hi Carolyn. hmmmm, that’s a very good question. i’ve never seen Taiwanese strawberries in the US, but maybe an Asian store might have them? i wish there was more to do at the festival, but that’s pretty typical for Taiwan. take care.
