Chicken From The Market

I thought that I would show our readers what it’s like to purchase a packaged chicken in Taiwan, which is typical of most of Asia.

No big deal, right? Just a chicken in a package. Let’s take a closer look.

OK fine. Let’s unwrap this sucker and see what it looks like.

It has the head on it! In Asia, if the chicken didn’t have the head the buyer would feel cheated.

But wait a minute, where are the feet?

Yeah, you guessed it! You have to pull them out of there!

Yup, there they are.

Here is the whole thing, with head and feet as it was wrapped up in the package.

And this is what it looks like after I was finished with it.

  1. Man, I was just eating my Sunday morning “dan bing” when I saw this in my reader. Ack! You should have got one of those black ones. They look truly hideous, but taste almost identical to regular white chicken. Chinese/ Taiwanese consider black foods to be good for the kidneys.

  2. oh yeah, the black ones are interesting! our local store didn’t have one of those. i will tell you that the chicken ended up in my 12″ Dutch oven (i’ll be writing the story later today) and was cooked with stew vegetables. it was good!

thanks for reading and for your comments Naruwan 🙂
