Posted on Monday, March 30th, 2009 in China – Comments: (6)
Photos by MJ Klein & HuichenHui-chen and I are going back to China next week on business.  We’ll be blogging on our experiences there of course.  But thinking about going back has prompted me to take a look at the photos we took back in August of 2005.  We thought you might like to take a trip we took on the Black Dragon River.
  • Bicycle Riding and Stray Dogs
Posted on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 in Lifestyle – Comments: (39)
Photos by MJ KleinBy now, everyone knows that I have a new recumbent trike.  But I’m no stranger to bicycle riding.  I’ve had a Giant brand MTB for five years and I’ve enjoyed bicycle riding since I was a kid.  But in Taiwan, there is a huge problem with stray dogs and the fact that you cannot go anywhere on the island and escape from them.
  • Blue Sky Show Update
Posted on Monday, March 9th, 2009 in Blue Sky Band – Comments: (16)
Blue Sky is playing at the Bitan Music Fest this weekend on March 15.  According to the schedule, the time is somewhere between 15:00 and 17:00.  I’m not sure exactly when the band is going to play as there is a Thai cooking demonstration that is going to take place live on stage. We were scheduled to play March 21 in Taichung for the premier of the new movie Detours to Paradise but the venue is being renovated.

  • Recumbent Trike Equipment Update
Posted on Thursday, March 5th, 2009 in Lifestyle – Comments: (24)
Photos by MJ KleinI updated some of the equipment on the trike in the last few days, so I wanted to do an article about the updates. I installed a Air Zound air horn on the right accessories bar.  I needed a really loud horn for 2 reasons: 1: I’m low to the ground and in some traffic situations I need to make my presence known in an authoritative manner.
  • The Bitan Music Fest

Photos by MJ Klein & Hui-chen (with FOOD PHOTOS)The Blue Sky band was invited to play at the Bitan Music Fest on Sunday, March 15, 2009.  But, the story of the weekend begins with our friend Andres….The next section is probably NSFW, so be sure you can view discreetly before continuing onto the rest of the article. We went up to Taipei Saturday evening and met up with Andres, Olivia and Karen (right to left) for some “hot pot” fare, since the temperature dropped considerably that evening.
  • The Giant Tree
Posted on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 in Park – Comments: (15)
Photos by MJ KleinHui-chen and I were out the other day, with one of our longtime suppliers and friends.  We came upon this very old tree in the Taichung area: This incredible giant camphor tree was made into a park to appreciate it. Upon closer examination, we find that there isn’t just a single tree, but rather four species all growing together!

Photos by MJ KleinOne of the great things about Dutch oven cooking is the fact that anywhere you can build a fire is anywhere you can cook a delicious meal.  I carried my 12″ Dutch oven down to Kaoshiung over the holiday because I knew there would be an afternoon where I would want to relax and cook.  This is the story about what I cooked.

Many of my friends know that I’ve spent years in the recording studio as an engineer, producer, recording artist and backup musician.  I was often called in to do some support work, such as background vocals, handclaps and so forth, on visiting artist’s recordings.  This story is about one of those times….At Crosstown Recording Studio in Boston, a prominent recording artist wanted to do some personal recording for the purpose of presenting songs to the publisher for a new album.

While my own personal experience with receiving the vouchers was rather unremarkable (with only 2 people saying anything to me while I was in line, and both times in “English”), there have been several noteworthy events in the news concerning the vouchers. Here is a list of them: Women fainted after receiving their vouchers.

We’re taking a few days off here, what with the holidays around the world and all. We know that you’re probably too busy eating and drinking (too much, I’m sure!) to be reading our blog. But there are a couple of things that I do want to share with you.

I purchased the new Garmin Colorado GPS. It’s quite a piece of work and is a GPS receiver that we could only have dreamed about a few years ago. I want to do a full review of it later, but for now I’m very impressed with it, even though it does leave out a few of what I consider to be critical features. Still it does everything I need it to do, plus a whole lot more. I’ll have more info for you in a review later on.

In the meantime, enjoy your time off with your family!

Photo by MJ KleinI love to ride bicycles.  The problem is that I am too big for conventional type bikes.  I own a Giant mountain bike, and while where is nothing wrong with the design of the bicycle, I am in quite a bit of pain and discomfort after about 15 minutes on it.  Therefore, I cant ride it for very long.

We’re in Thailand and we just came back to Khonkaen after spending a couple wonderful days with our friend Jason Brunt of Isaan Style blog in Ubon.

Now please bear with us, dear Readers, because our internet connections here are spotty at best, and not very fast.  We have a ton of photos to upload and stories to tell but they’re just going to have to wait until next week when we make it back to Taiwan.  In the meantime I’ll still attempt to post some of what we did, but I’m just asking for patience if it doesn’t work out until we get back to Taiwan.

I’d like to sum our our visit to Ubon with Brunty:

  1. Driving under a statue of a giant, 3 headed elephant.
  2. A dead abbot in a glass case.
  3. An awesome outdoor grill party.
  4. Ancient beads resting on pottery in an archeological dig site.
  5. Great food, and the best company one could expect to have.

MJ and Brunty

MJ, ticket in hand, saying goodbye to Brunty at the Ubon bus station

Our thanks to our hosts Brunty and Noot.  We had an incredible time in Ubon!  I promise there is more to come!

This is Brunty’s post on our visit.
