Laohukou Revisited

Hui-chen’s sister Ping-chen came over Saturday evening, and we took her to Laohukou Old Street area on Sunday. I’m getting tired of Laohukou because I think it’s way over-rated. Dasi Old Streets is way better and Dasi seems to retain more of the authentic flavor than Laohukou. Nevertheless, Laohukou is nearby, so off we went after a Sunday morning pancake breakfast.

Perfect Pancake
This is the only food photo for this article. I suggested that Hui-chen try using the teppanyaki pan because it’s very easy to control and it should make perfect pancakes. The results speak for themselves. The batter features Bushman’s Secret Ingredient that makes the pancakes light and fluffy. Anyone care to guess what that might be?

Weather Blues? Think Green

The weather has been lousy in Taiwan recently. We’ve had a few typhoon near misses and the Montreal Express has pulled into the station (that’s New England slang for “the cold air mass has come down from the north“). It’s definitely colder here than it was even last week. So I thought I should combat those weather blues, with green:


Green Island! This stunningly beautiful island off of Taiwan’s southeast coast is extremely hot in the summertime. It’s well worth a visit to this amazing tropical paradise.

Taiwan Industrial Photos, Investment Casting

Blogger Andres posted some kick-ass industrial photos yesterday. Today I was at one of our cooperating suppliers and I shot some photos of copper being poured. I thought I would share these shots with our readers. It’s not every day that one gets to see these kinds of industrial operations.


Shell molds cooling after being poured

Copper investment casting is interesting to watch because it’s hotter than aluminum, but cooler than steel alloys so it doesn’t hurt your eyes to watch the pour.
