Hui-chen and I took a little sight-seeing trip to Wulai after our return from China recently.  If you haven’t been there in awhile, you should take a visit and see for yourself, what a lovely place Wulai really is.

Wulai Visit
Besides the famous waterfall, Wulai is known for these emerald green waters (and wires!).  These photos are un-processed and the colors are just how the Nikon D80 photographed them.

I’ve been invited to perform at this year’s Thai New Year Celebration, taking place at Taoyuan Stadium on April 13, 2008.  There is no admission charge and all people are welcome to attend.  This will be a multi-national event with many Southeast Asian countries represented.  I will post more details as they become available.

Hui-chen and I have been busy - busier than usual, even for us! We went on a whirlwind trip to China and Hong Kong for 3 days. I apologize for any inconvenience but there won’t be any Bushman’s Picks this week because of our busy schedule.

Let me show you a couple of photos from our trip. Of course we’re going to do some feature articles later.

China Factory Workers
We visited a bicycle factory that makes more than 6,000,000 units per year.

Hong Kong Skyline

Hong Kong Skyline
And we walked around one of our favorite cities, Hong Kong (photo taken from Kowloon).

Yes, of course we did shopping too.

See you next week!

Hui-chen and I are off in China and Hong Kong on business for a few days.  We’ll be back soon with some great photos and stories to tell!  In the meantime we’d like to show you some dishes that Hui-chen’s mother cooked during Chinese New Year.

Specialty Taiwanese Food
By now, everyone knows that these are the family specialty.   Hui-chen makes her own version too, and they are great.

February 29 comes once every 4 years.  So, I propose a party at Shao-hui’s!

Hui-chen and I have a visitor coming from the US and he will be here for the 29th.  Let’s show him a great time with the legendary company of Taiwan’s bloggers, and the food and drink at Shao-hui’s.

We’ll be there in the early evening so just show up anytime.  All are welcome to join us!

Check the Geotagged Articles Map to locate Shao-hui’s.

Blue Sky Hoedown

Photos by MJ Klein, and others where noted.

It was almost a throwdown in some respects, but the party at the Blue Sky was more or less successful in that people had a relatively good time, and nobody got hurt, although the event was not up to my personal standards. First, let me thank everyone who ventured out on that cold windy evening to join us. Your company is what makes things like this worthwhile. Second, please allow me to apologize (more on that later).
Blue Sky Party
Why I like Nikon cameras, reason #57: IR remote control. This shot was taken on a tripod from my seat at the table at the far end of the shot.

Many of Taiwan’s famous people were on hand at the surreal Blue Sky.

Tourist Night Market, Kaohsiung
Hui-chen and I were in Kaohsiung for Chinese New Year. We decided to go to the Liuhe tourist night market for dinner. After finding this huge crowd, we decided to pass on dinner there!

So, how busy was your Chinese New Year?

Another year has come and gone.  Hui-chen and I are in south Taiwan visiting the family here.  We won’t be back in our office until Monday so we’re going to take the weekend off.  There fore there will be no Bushman’s Picks this week.  We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

When we return, we will have an exclusive report on the new Kaohsiung Rapid Transit system.  So if you are a fan of the Taiwan rails and transit systems, you will not want to miss this!

We’re also looking forward to seeing everyone at the Blue Sky in Taipei county on 2/16!

Take care everyone and we’ll see you in a couple more days.

The Dreaded Weiya!

At this time of year there are many articles about people in Taiwan attending their company weiya or banquet. I don’t know why but most people write badly about them, as if they hate them. Personally I like weiya banquets and Hui-chen and I were invited to one recently. I like these banquets because it gives me a chance to meet with workers and bosses in an informal manner, do some drinking with them and get a chance to rub shoulders without any pressure. I’ve seen a few bosses get drunk and let loose and even sing a little karaoke. This article will stick to the food though, because although some people hate the weiya, I like the weiya food!

Weiya Photos
First out of the chute was this appetizer dish, consisting of (clockwise from the bottom) imitation crab meat with a Hollandaise sauce, fish skin, sliced noodles, some kind of seafood skin stuff, and sliced duck meat plus beef.

Dutch Oven & Thai Food
I lit a fire, put on some food and the guests started arriving. Yup, it was another party at Shao-hui’s. Do we ever get tired of them? No way!
