The day was perfect.  The wind started out strong but died down to the perfect wind speed that was refreshing without being over-powering.  We had everything we needed for a fantastic day at the beach – except guests.

Hui-chen awaits the arrival of the first guests

We arrived at noon in order to make sure that we were there before anyone else.  Several people had asked what time we would be there and had indicated that they would be arriving early.  Hui-chen and I were the only ones there for the first 2 hours.

We set up our camping table in the corner of the shelter, as there was no table space available.  We drove 2 cars to the beach, and hauled 8 of our large chairs and 4 small ones, plus 2 coolers.  We were really afraid that we wouldn’t have enough seating for everyone who said they were coming, so we did our best to bring as much as we could.

BBBB

At the opposite end, we set up our grill, which we also brought.  The wind was blowing from the right in this photo, so we wanted the grill set up so the wind would blow the smoke away.  That’s our second cooler there (the red one).  We had bought some ice from the place where we usually buy ice, near A-dong’s.  Clean, edible ice is a must for any outdoor party!

BBBB

I was expecting around 25 people, and one of the necessary items is fresh, clean water.  People have to be able to wash their hands and utensils, plus a drinkable water supply is necessary as an alternative to beer or soft drinks.  We brough 37 KG of fresh filtered water with us.  That was 10 gallons.  Notice the hand cleaner next to the water containers.  My wife thinks of everything.

BBBB

Around 2:00 PM I just couldn’t wait any longer so I grilled a small steak and ate it.  With Mediterranean sea salt, and being cooked outdoors, it was really great.

BBBB

Finally, the Yu family arrived!  Here we see Olivia at the table.

BBBB

We quickly got to work setting up the food and getting stuff on the grill.  After all, the sun was going to start setting around 18:00 so we had less than 4 hours of enjoyable light.

BBBB

Andre toasts everyone with a Leo beer.  Hui-chen and I had brought a case of the famous Thai beer with us.

BBBB

Becky and her boyfriend had invited a German couple to come with them.  They all took a walk down the beach at low tide.

BBBB

This is Becky and Brian on the left, with Alex and Vanessa from Germany on the right.  We had quite a nice spread on the table!

BBBB

In the late afternoon we put a tarp up to help shade the setting sun.

BBBB

My wife manned the grill as she likes to do.

BBBB

We had brought some of A-dong’s dried beef with us and that proved to be a huge hit with everyone.  That’s the dried beef in the very center of the table.

BBBB

This is a close-up of some of the meat.  We had brought beef and pork steaks, and the Yu’s brought beef short ribs and some other nice cuts.

BBBB

Andre holds up his can of Leo beer for the camera while we enjoy the setting sun.

BBBB

Towards the end of the day, our friend TC dropped in.

BBBB

TC brought his pocket trumpet and it was really great to hear him playing it for a few minutes.  We didn’t have any arrangements for music though.

BBBB

Andre shot some video.

To everyone that had problems such as illness, we certainly understand that you couldn’t make it and there was nothing you could do about it.  Health and family come first.  To the rest of you who said you were going to come, and ended up doing something else or just didn’t feel like driving down to the beach, you missed a perfect day.

Looks like it was a fantastic day. I wish we could have made it. Organizing something and then have people who say they’ll come fail to show is the worst. Selina and I both feel bad even though we’d told you a couple of months ago that we wouldn’t be there.

Mj it looked like a great day for the party. I am sure the people who turned up enjoyed as the food looked good. I am a big dry beef fan, love chewing teh stuff. Problem is once I start it is hard to stop.

Andre drinking Leo beer, I drank Leo a few times but when I tried Archa beer I have never gone back to Leo. Archa is a much better drop I think by a long way.

It looks as though you and Hui-chen went to a lot of effort as you always do and it is a shame that some others didn’t notify you they couldn’t make it.

These people don’t get an invite to that amazing cabin that I am dreaming of visitng and hunting some shrimp. They are off the list:)

    Thanks for sharing mate.

I had a good time and liked the scenery and the beef dish especially; thanks for inviting me. For some reason I had 3pm in my mind as when the thing started, sorry I was late.

MJ, well one thing for sure , the party was not in the LOS , because you would have had to run to the market for more food ,ha ha and looks like the Taiwanese are just like the Thai’s when it comes to time , I call it Thai time ,which means anytime they feel like showing up. glad a few folks finally showed up and from the looks of the great pictures you and the sweet wife had a feast ready, I only wish Ciejay and me could have been there , it looks like to me that the ones who really missed a great time were the no -shows , because the pictures show folks having a great time ,eating and visiting with each other , and sharing each others life stories and tossing down a few beers. Take care and start planning for next years big COOK OUT . Malcolm

Malcolm, you and Ciejay would have been more than welcome to join us! funny that you mention Thai parties because i’ve been asked to attend a few parties just so i could finance the beer! haha we had plenty for everyone and the day was just gorgeous. thanks.
