Hey, I have another GoPro video for you.  I took a trike ride into the downtown area of Hukou and rode around trying to capture what it’s like to visit our small town.  Here is the video:

Speaking of GoPro cameras, my plastic mounting hardware has broken, piece by piece.  The plastic is much too brittle and the mounting shoes survived only a few mating cycles before the retaining ears broke off.  GoPro is aware of the problem, and had this to say about it (in response to my email):

Bushman’s Blogger Beach BBQ: Update

This past weekend, Andres and I checked out the site for the Beach BBQ.  We agreed that we should use the other shelter instead of the original one.  The reasons for this are twofold:

  1. There are less people at the other end of the beach,
  2. There are no signs prohibting using grills and cooking food at the other site.

So, I want to give you the coordinates for the second shelter.  Plug these into Google Maps: 24 55.207 120 58.205

You do not have to grill if you don’t want to.  You’re welcome to bring some prepared food picnic style.  The idea is to hang out and relax.

It’s also not required but it would be nice if everyone were to register for the event so we know who’ll be there.

Thanks!

It’s been some time since we featured some night shots, so we’re long overdue.  I really enjoy shooting at night and since I have the optically stabilized lens I can usually get good results in low-lighting conditions.

This is a food area, with lots of places to eat.  We found a place and had dinner (but I didn’t take any photos of the food).

I took this photo (or should I say the camera took it automatically) while out on a lunchtime ride yesterday.  I like the fisheye effect a lot.  Also, you can see me with my helmet cam if you look hard enough.

In this blog you will find articles about Lee (and also Paul), friends of mine in Taoyuan with whom I like to party.

My Friend Mr. Lee and Hui-chen

That’s Mr. Lee on the left, singing karaoke with Hui-chen.  I got some bad news today: Mr. Lee suffered a heart attack and he didn’t make it.   I used to enjoy singing and drinking with Mr. Lee, who was known for his excellent English skills and his love for singing English songs, often in harmony with me.  Mr. Lee, you will be missed.

Another video of the big hill, but this time I used the new GoPro Helmet Hero WIDE camera.  The trike gets going pretty fast by the time it reaches the bottom of the hill.

I’m having fun with this new camera!

UPDATE:  Please register for this event.  While registration is not a requirement, we would all like to see who is going to attend.  Thanks for your cooperation!

It’s time for another blogger party folks!  This time, it’s going to be a grill party on the beach!

I’d been searching for a new place to do something different, and in my travels I found a cool place by the beach that would make for an excellent blogger party.  I’ll show you some photos in a minute, but first, let me announce the date (and why).

September 19th, 2009

In case of a typhoon, the backup date is September 26, 2009.

Where: Sinfong, Taiwan. Coordinates: 24 54.698 120 57.994 (plug this into Google Maps).  It’s just off Route 15 along the coast.  Very easy accessible from anywhere in Taiwan.

The place is very easy to find and the coastline here is incredible.  Like many beaches in Taiwan you cannot swim here, but the view is nice and there is always a cool breeze.  What’s more important is there is a place where we can set up some grills and have a party and no one will bother us.

Why This Date?

September is much cooler than July and August, yet warmer than October.  The weekend before is still part of Ghost Month, and many people don’t go out during that time.  The weekend after is fine too, but then there isn’t any backup date in case of a typhoon.  This date is still plenty of time before the Lunar Festival so it won’t interfere with that holiday.  So, September 19th seems to be the perfect date.

Here are some details about the place:

Today’s Ride 090708

There I was, riding along, minding my own business, when my air pump fell off the trike!  I was going through a tunnel and apparently hit a few bumps that were more than the pump could take and it fell off the mounting bracket.  So then I had to park the trike, walk back and get the pump out of the tunnel.  This being Taiwan, that was easier said than done!  In fact, it was a bit dangerous since the tunnel is narrow and big trucks go through there.

I offer you this video, hosted on Youtube.  Enjoy!

Thanks for reading!  We’re looking forward to your comments.
