I’ve been kicking around the idea of a new blog for industrial photos. It seems that people love food photos [1] and blogs about food [2], but I am not sure of the appeal of industrial photos to the general public. I certainly have a raft of them from several countries, taken over a number of years.
Recently Michael Turton visited a factory in Hsinpu [3] where I introduced him to my friend Tony Lin. I was there yesterday and took more photos (this time of copper pouring) in addition to the ones taken earlier in the week. I’d like to present these photos and ask: Are these interesting? Should I create a separate blog for industrial photos? I would appreciate feedback.

Michael photographing a pile of recently cast shell molds. The material is A-356 aluminum.

Tony Lin inspecting the copper as it pours into a shell mold.

Tony Lin, despite being the owner of the factory, personally handles some aspects of the process.

Tony holds a shell mold to steady it against the pressure of the copper flow.

Shell molds after being poured. These shells have been “hot-topped” with an insulating material over the riser to slow the cooling process.

well michael, personally i don’t think you need to start a separate blog just for industrial photos, however it would be great if you can post more industrial photos here.
